evangelize to him, pray for him, definitely dont fight. DONT ACCEPT IT.
invite him to lifespace.cc thats my advice.
You can talk to him. you can scream at him and you can try to knock some sense into him, but none of that will work. In fact, it will only make him want to smoke more.
One thing you might do is to do some research on a disease called Emphysema. A lot of people get it from smoking. I have it but I got it from raditaion and from when I smoked years ago and let me tell you, it's no fun walking around using Oxygen 24 hrs a day. It IS a terminal diseae.
Make sure you find a site that tells about how the lining in your lungs get thinner and thinner until you can't hardly breathe at all and some people had to have their leg amputated. Don't lecture him. Just let him read it.
I'll do some research and see what I can find for you.
He has to be scared into quitting and, sadly to say, he still may not quit until he's on his death bed.
Give him my name. I'll tell him, from experience, what it's like.

The more you push the harder they'll want to do it. I'm having this problem w/my 15 yr old bro and 17 yr old bro in law. I told them that if they do it around me they are being disrespectful. I also told them I won't let them stay over if they smoke here. We told them how we felt and they are carring enough to at least keep it away from us. With your friend show him a graphic video on what kinds of diseases he can get.
Angeal, From my message above...I looked it up and there's a lot of technical stuff but here is the prognosis, the bottom line.
Emphysema is an irreversible degenerative condition. The most important measure to slow its progression is for the patient to stop smoking and avoid all exposure to cigarette smoke and lung irritants. Pulmonary rehabilitation can be very helpful to optimize the patient's quality of life and teach the patient how to actively manage his or her care.
But tell him to talk to me. I'll tell him what's it like to have COPD (Emphysema)
I understand how you feel the same thing happened to me...the more I faught with them the farther and faster they ran away.
I think you need to just continue to be there and tell the person that you dont agrree with it but that you are going to just accept it.
with my situation once I stopped 'bothering' her about it she began to hang out with me again ( I think it was cause she knew she wasnt going to get lectured) but anyway now shes better and doesnt do it as often.
* just make it clear that you dont want the person doing it around you.
I have the same issue with my friend, fortunately he's a hypochondriac so the threat of a lung disease, cancer, emphysema etc seem to work pretty effectively with him (well for the most part), but if that doesnt work, unfortunately not much will... he's probably way to young to imagine anything happening to him, and honestly you cant reason with addicts... maybe instead of quit smoking cold turkey try and get him to cut down slowly...

How to stop my friend from smoking?
Have a friend and he smoking and I tried everything I confronted him, talk to him,got someone he cares about talk to him and none of it work.now he drifting more and more away from his friends and to his smoking friends more. To me the only thing left is to knock some sense into him by fighting
