How to listen to my boyfriend better?

Okay... So. Sometimes my boyfriend will say stuff, like about his family and I dont know what to say. Like stuff that bothers him. for example I found coke in my parents room and I responded with a what the f*ck why are they doing that? kinda...

thing and I was like well are you okay. I dont know what to say! And I know that was not the right thing to say because hedidnt have much of a response after that. And since then he hardly ever talks to me about that stuff anymore. What do guys want to hear, do they just want women to listen, and not say anything, unless they ask. If I do that I feel like hell think I dont care, and I do care soo much about this guy. And because he doesnt talk abou t his stuff anymore I just feel like were becoming more distant, and I dont want it to ultimate in a breakup. I just need to know how to listen so men will talk
Pleeeaase can a guy that has actually had experience with a girl and this kind of stuff, or a women who knows for a fact how guys want us to react to this stuff because they have been told by another man, answer to my question.
