Buy a generic vocabulary book and do some of the exercises they have in them. Also, type up whatever you can, like papers, in microsoft word because it has spellcheck.
I'm a rotten speller as well. Think of how hard I had things, when I started college we didn't have spell checkers so every paper I wrote required more time with the dictionary than I spent writing the paper.
The only solution I found is to list the words you most often misspell and memorize them.
Growing up on the Canadian boarder one of my problems is that for a lot of words both the American and the Canadian/British spellings look correct to me. e.g. defense/defence, grey/gray, litre/liter, licence/license, catalogue/catalog, etc.
What our teacher does is that wheneva we write anything we write down da words that we misspelt. Than we write da MEANINGS. That helps because you should know the meanings of spellings as well. or get rules of spellings like 'I before e except after c...' or get a rhyme like 'Soldiers - SolDIErs sometimes DIE.' Well, that works for me. hehe! Hope it helps
Umm... Read more books or look at the dictionary, I guess.
maybe your dyslectic my really good friend is .. there are several types of it and it can affect spelling and reading... if your not then try spelling the word over and over again correctly because sometime if you spell if over and over again you get used to the word and its easier to spell
Ok for a start its miss spelt not misspelles
the second, do what they teach people to do in primary schools here - Look, Cover, Write, Check and repeat - you look at a work you cant spell - cover it up - write it on another piece of paper - the check see if you did it right - repeat several times until its easy
third tip - get people to proof read all you work if you can I.e. get them to read through point out any mistakes and help you correct them
fourth top tip - use rhymes - e.g. to spell because Big Elephants Can Always Understand Small Elephants and try thinking of some of your own too, if you can make them relevant to the word that helps too like Rhythm Has Your Two Hips Moving
finally to all americans out there just plain and simply learn to speak properly!!! there are site out there to re-educate you!! Most annoying example? Its aluminium not aluminum there are two I's!!

How do I improve my spelling?
