Depends on the car. There is the classic coathanger squeezed through the window gasket method though it is harder or even impossible on newer cars that lock with a toggle on the inside of the door instead of a button on top.
Most car doors can unlock with a Slim Jim down the glass. When I was younger Police had Slim Jims and could let you back in your car after locking your keys in but they no longer carry them. A Slim Jim is a thin sheet of metal with a hook cut into it. Many doors have a toggle to unlock the door that you can reach by sliding it down the glass. If you don't know what you are doing a Slim Jim can damage your door, window, lock, or electrical connections so unless you are willing to take this risk call a locksmith. If you are in too big a hurry for a locksmigh you can always break a side window.
If you do have a car with power locks, get a yard stick and push it from the top or the closet side near the unlock button and press down on the unlock button...WA-LA!!!
Use your hide-a-key! If you do not have one hidden already then you are not prepared! I've hidden mine with red duct tape. To err is human, so lets be prepared for the inevitable!
take a stick and prop the door open on the top...unscrew your antenna and bend it a lil bit...untie your shoe string and tie it on the end of the antenna slide it towards the nob where the lock is that goe up and down to lock it...wrap the string around the lock nob with the antenna and then get it wrapped tight and then pull up...this works on my 2001 ford taurus cause the nob is against the door making it hard to push on cause of the angle
