The guy didn't mention stealing software - way to jump on tham thar moral high horses. Here's the 3 basic steps you need to follow for a free XP confirmation ID:

1. Select your country
2. Call the toll-free number given
3. Provide the CSR with your installation ID

That's it! No expense, and you end up getting your very own installation ID. Once you have this, type it in, and you're ready to go with a near decade-old OS.
