How to become close mates with an ex

I'm 15 years old. My ex boyfriend dumped me last September. We stayed good mates for a few months after the break up but I found it hard to cope with being his friend because I wanted so much more than friendship. He admited he still fancied me but didn't want to go out with me again, just wanted to stay friends. I found it to hard to stay his close friend so I bassically cut him out off my life. This was in November and I haven't spoken to him in person since. He just texts me every now and again and we have a very shallow convosation discussing the weather and what we did in the holidays and so on. So know he must like me at least as a frined still otherwise he wouldn't make the effort to text me. I would really like to get close to him again and be able to have deeper more meaningful convosations with him and talk to him in person. At the moment I can't even look him in the eye at school. How do I break from just having shallow once in a while convosations to deeper meaningful convosations? I don't want to scare him off suddendly being all full on and serious with him. Just want to have him as a close mate again he was such a god frined to me in the past. Please help me. Thanks x

as we get older and older we don't stay friends with an EX. While young and we are dating on a casual level we can stay friends but as we get older and the dating because more serious we can't and do not remain friends. This creates a load of drama not only for you, but for your new boyfriend/boyfriends. If you stay friends old feeling can arise causing more drama. If you stay friends your friends who also hang out with him may want to start dating him etc. etc. So while the young and uncommitted can remain friends the older one gets and more involved the less likely this will work.
