How to become an actress?

Ok, don't laugh on my question, cause Im from Europe and I have no idea about becomming an actress..
I'm planning in near future to go to America, and in the same time 'try' to become a little something from an actress..
So my question is, how does it...

go?
I think its something like, there are audicions for movies and tv shows, and you only need to chech in, and then if they choose you, you're in right?
But how do you find about those audicions.. how does it go??

Tell me everything you know about this, please..
Hope to get the answer im looking for.
