How soon is too soon to move in together?

Is there a general limit on the amount of time that should pass before a couple begins to consider moving in together?

I highly recommend that you do NOT move in with anyone if you are not married and under 30. Use your 20's to be independent and learn who you are and explore yourself and have fun.

When you move in with someone, it runs you the high risk of staying in the relationship long after you want to leave it. It's hard to separate your things, it just makes things difficult all the way around.

So get a couple of roommates (female ones are good). Rent a nice large home, get your life in order and stay independent. Don't play house. Please, take it from me!!

Of course there is no general limit! There are no rules when it comes to relationships. People are all different, so naturally, couples are all different. That means some couples will be ready to move in together after one month, others won't be ready until after three years.

So I say a couple is ready to move in when they feel ready, are adults, trust each other, have the money situation planned out and can afford everything, etc., regardless of how much time has passed.

The fact that you asked about it here though, makes me think you might not quite be ready. Maybe you think it is too soon or things are moving too fast? If so, then say you're not ready yet. There's nothing wrong with waiting. You wouldn't want to move in with someone only to find out later that they never pay their bills!
