Hi,

It is a thick area, so it does hurt. I tend to think that anytime a piercing goes through your mouth, it will hurt, but in my experience, other piercings hurt much worse. My most painful one was my tragus (part of the ear), and cartilage of the ear. My eyebrow and tongue were much less painful, so I'm sure you'll be fine.

Had it done a month ago, I love it so much, as for the pain id say a 2-3 doing it and 5-6 2 mins after. The piercing action itself doesnt hurt but like 5 mins after it stings, only because the skin has been broken. I bled a lot because of whatever meds a took befor, but besides that it was great, only a little of actual pain for maybe and hour, mostly stinging like a papercut. Sea salt soaking and ice helps a lot : ) clean it well, mine was normal within a week but keep in mind, like any piercing it takes months to fully heal.

Well, I have had mine for almost 3 years, and if you've had your lobe or cartilage pierced, it's a little more painful than a earlobe piercing and less painful than the cartilage. The pain is only for a few minutes. But I as well as a friend of mine had what appeared to be a cankersore at the site inside the mouth, and that cleared up in a week. It caused me alarm, but can be typical in some piercings, it's just depedant of the piercie... It's not a cause for a big alarm, but be sure to monitor it. If the swelling doesn't go down in a few days, about 4 no more than 7, you might want to get it checked out or remove it. But to adequatley answer your question, it hurts, it's a needle your putting through your lip, but it's no worse than any other piercing and it's well worth it. That and it heals in about 2 weeks.
