Im doing a geography project at school on staple foods and I chose potato but no web sites say how much water they need
im a very experienced veg gardener,I was secretary of my local allotment, and chairman of the local council allotments, I also used to judge them at the end of the year,so I do know a bit about growing spuds and suchlike. no one can say say how much a potatoe plant needs,it depends on many things depending on weather/soil conditions. the plant itself knows how much it needs ,and will take up as much or as little as it requires, all you have to do is make sure its available thats why all the books will tell you to grow them in rich organic soil/compost, this will HOLD the moisture [NOT WATER] we dont want them standing in water.so if theyre in a well drained compost/soil you can give it loads of water knowing that the excess will drain away but the compost/soil will remain damp remember also that "lime" must be kept away from them, use a fertiliser with a low [n.]nitrogen conent, but with a more potash [p.] content good luck
lots and lots and lots.. the more the better
