I have heard 72 hrs. That was also how long that I was a real PAIN IN THE A@@. After that is a long period of still wanting to smoke. It was 7 YEARS before I completely lost the desire to smoke. Now I've been smoke free for 25 years.
It also took many attempts before this last time.

From my research it depends on how much you smoked per day and how long you have been a smoker. For those who smoke only once in a while 72 hours is right, otherwise it can take several months.
