How long do normal couples wait before actually having sex?

This is such a taboo topic in life that there's not an easy way to get a feel for it.

I'm also very curious because I've been known to move too quickly and thus, to sabotage relationships. What is too fast?

love of my life and I'm allowing him to pace the relationship, entirely. I'm trying to determine whether this is normal or if he's being particularly cautious because he knows my history of addiction.
