When you have an eticket, then you don't have a regular paper ticket to travel. Then when you get to the machine at the airport you enter in your credit card that you purchased the tickets with and then you can get your boarding pass. So it's not really 'paperless' travel, but only 'ticketless' travel, as you still end up with a paper boarding pass to get on the plane.
