Virginity is an interesting concept. It doesn't have a universal meaning. In the US it generally means someone who hasn't had coitus. In other cultures and parts of the world it is defined differently. My ex- told me that when she went to a Catholic school in San Antonio some of the Hispanic girls would not use tampons because they felt they wouldn't be virgins anymore if they did.

Some people consider themselves virgins because they haven't had coitus but they have done 'everything else.' Since in some circles virginity is valued kids will decide to do everything short of coitus to preserve their virginity. In another forum I saw a post from someone that said, 'My boyfriend and I are both virgins and are saving ourself for marriage but we have oral and an*l sex and mastrubate each other.' The term 'technical virgin' has been coined to describe this type of person who has a lot of sexual experience but no coitus yet.

I've heard people blame all this on Bill Clinton who equivocated when asked if he had sex with Monica Lewinsky by saying no because it was felatio instead fo coitus but earlier studies of sexual behavior found that most kids didn't consider oral stimulation to be 'real sex.'
