It's an eight count step. The lead starts with a left foot rock step forward, swivel hips, then step back in place.

Then, step back on right foot, rock step, and then return, step in place. There is a 1/2 count when your feet are together, so some people do kicks, flairs, etc, in between counts. That's the basic rhythm, good luck I've been dancing salsa on & off for about 10 years now, eventually, I hope to get better at it.
