Use witch hazel alcohol, and a q-tip, it dries quickly, and does smell. It might take a bit of scrubbing, but it works, also on computer equipment also.
I use a qtip dipped in rubbing alcohol, then I clean for a while & keep changing qtips till it is clean. To keep it clean, put the remote in a plastic zip lok bag, seal & go! Hope this helps. Or you can even use lighter fluid inside the remote & it evaporates, becareful not to get around flames or fire! Lerua
I still have a lot of scrubbing to do with the cutip but the alcohol idea is working great.
Thanks for the advice.
You can buy a universal control for less then $10 (I see them in the dollar store for a dollar) then toss out the old remote.
If you want you can try this: AT YOUR OWN RISK. Take out the batteries and put the remote in the dishwasher. Top rack. Use no soap. After the wash cycle is over lay it buttons down on a paper towel for 2 days to make sure it's dry. DO NOT DRY IT IN THE DISHWASHER OR IT WILL MELT! You might could use a hair dryer but be careful.
Again do this carefully and only at your own risk!!!!!

How do you clean a tv remote control? I took a picture of the dirt thats in the remote and it is quite disgusting. Any ideas would be helpful. I tried blowing air into it with an air can but that didn't work
