How do you know if chicken spoiled?

For raw chicken: Surface is slimey, not slippery. Green or gray color. Foul smell (even a mild one) like rotten eggs or ammonia. You can always cook it and taste it...if it tastes 'off' even a little bit, don't swallow the bite and throw the rest of it away.
Cooked chicken: If it's been sitting in the fridge, it should be OK for up to three to five days as long as it was put in the fridge promptly after cooking it (not sitting out for hours or overnight). I've left leftover chicken in the fridge for about a week and it was still fine. Again, if it smells bad, don't eat it.
Never freeze chicken, thaw it out and then freeze it again.
If it has freezer burn, throw it out. It will taste horrible, not that it could get you sick necessarily.
The old saying goes: When in doubt, throw it out!
And go by the Sell by date if it's been in the refridgerator. DON'T eat it if it's been in the fridge for more than 3 days after sell by date or in the fridge for more than 2 days and has not reached sell by date.
