How do i simplify these equations

I know it sounds easy, but my head is so confused, I need to do this for my hwk thats due in tomorrow.. how do I simplify these equations; ie. 2a+a=3a
Okay heres the questions:
1. 7x-2y+4x+8y=

2. 8x+4y+7x+2z=

3. 4x-6x+9y-11y=

If you could...

explain, I would be very grateful! Thanks =)

It's not hard- you combine the like number/letter combinations.
If you have 3x and later on -2x then you know you have x or ('1x' depends on your teacher).

Pretend the letters are actual objects.

Like the first one, 7x-2y+4x+8y=
x = apples
y = oranges

7 apples + 4 apples + 8 oranges - 2 oranges = 11 apples + 6 oranges
