Is there a way to lighten skin tone?

I'm just wondering.....is there such a thing as a skin lighting lotion or something? For some reason, all of a sudden I got a lot more darker that what I already am, & I want to get rid of it so can someone tell me a way how to lighten on skin color or tone....thanxz!
