How do i dye my hair from brown to blonde?

i want to remember us, just as we are now... <3 Asked by paige_marie09 10 months ago, 8 answers.

Months ago I decided to go blonde. I have natural (pretty dark) brown hair. I went to the salon and two different stylists told me that I couldn't go blonde. I know that's not true cause I have several friends who went there with their darker hair than...

mine, and came out with beautiful blonde hair! so I decided if no one was going to help me than I'd just have to do it myself. I dyed it with a home bleaching kit. the color was not what I wanted (it came out a red-ish brassy color). I bleached it again, and that time it came out a yellow-ish orange color. (I was going to bleach it again, but gave up) I went to the salon and got them to die it brown. right now I have it chestnut brown with honey sun kissed highlights. that was a few months ago and now the color is fading and it has a green pigment in it. seeing as summer is coming up... I want to go blonde!! Lol but this time I want it to be an actual nice light blonde. With maybe a few low lights... I was wondering (seeing as my last attempt failed) ...would it work if I slowly lightened my hair? like, die it a lighter brown.. Then a lighter brown after... gradually working my way up to the lightest brown, then start to go blonde... And so on. or another way I've thought of is dying it a lighter brown then adding a full head of highlights. and every few weeks adding more highlights until my whole head is lighter? ... I'm not sure how well that one would work? but I want to to this all at home ( hopefully without bleach cause it dried out my hair so much) because even if the stylist says that he can do it, 90% of the time they screw up my hair!! So what's the best way to go about this? and would that method of slowly lightening my hair work?

ok I am a natural blonde but I dyed my hair black a few years ago. I had to go back to blonde so I had to bleach my 3 time myself to get back to blonde because the salon didn't want to do it for me. you got to be careful because your hair can fall out but that if your hair is damaged and sometime hair doesn't have to be damaged to fall out if you bleach it yourself. ok

My mom used to be a Hair Stylest like she went to college for it and my hair is naturally black I had to bleach mine like four times to get to Blonde, but you do have to be very, very careful when bleaching it,it can either dry it out horribly,or it can make your hair all stringy fall out. Mine just got really dry. But if you dont want to do it yourself just go and find a different stylst who will do it for you.

Hope this helped

Are you 100% sure that you want to go blonde? It is very high maintenence if you have naturally dark hair as you will need to touch up your roots every 4-6 weeks. Its usually best to work with your natural colour and not stray more than a couple of shades from it, whether it be darker or lighter. If you start putting colour after colour on top of each other you hair is going to suffer and if you are using permanent dyes then it will collect a build-up of colour and end up looking dull and worn out.
I really wouldn't reccomend you attempt this yourself. Go to the hairdresser and explain to them the result you want and what you have done previously. They need to know what your hair has been through and what has been used on it in order to get the best possible end result. Get them to add half a head of highlights through the top section first which will lighten your overall look. Be sure to take care of your hair and use deep conditioning treatments of a regular basis. Look after your hair as going blonde means your hair will be more fragile and lightening damages it. After another 4 weeks get more highlights put through your hair, and try using a blonde shampoo or toner (they are purple in colour - this takes away any gold tones and gives you a nice 'clean' blonde). If you do colour it yourself please don't try and bleach the whole thing yourself - it will always end badly unless you are an expert!

use lemo juice on your hair before going brown
as this makes your hair lighter and it doesnt harm your hair where dying it too much does, once your hair becomes lighter than dye it blonde and you should have better results then

If you are 100% sure you want to go blonde then you should go to the hairdresser and tell them what has been done to your hair, etc.. and then tell them what they want, and they should do it okay. But, if you really want to do it at home don't go gradually up a shade, just dye your hair light brown and then it should work going blonde, this worked for my friend so it should work for you.

Hope this helps x

Don't give up! I have just gone from medium chestnut brown to light blonde at home. It can be done, it just takes a little perseverance - don’t expect your hair to be the perfect shade after just a couple of packets.

I made the mistake of purchasing a honey blonde colour to begin with, which left my hair an unattractive and highly undesirable carrot orange. I would recommend buying an ash blonde, as I have since discovered that this has a blue base which minimises orange brassy tones (I used Clairol Nice and Easy Natural Light Ash Blonde). Be patient - it took seven packets of Nice and Easy and six horrifying shades of orangey-yellow to get my hair colour right.

Despite the instructions on the packet, which state that two boxes can be used at once for longer than shoulder length hair, I was frightened of the effect so much dye might have on the condition of my hair and therefore spaced the treatments out over seven days. My hair is still in reasonable condition (it wasn’t that great to start with) and in hindsight I think I was kidding myself to assume spacing the treatments out would really make any difference. Be careful with your scalp. The burning on the third application was almost unbearable and from then on I made a point of avoiding the root base altogether.

Finally I purchased Jerome Russel’s BBlonde (which contains quite a lot of bleach) to add some very light (almost white) highlights, which would probably have been impossible to achieve with Nice and Easy. Unless you know what you’re doing, get someone to help you with these otherwise they can look very unnatural.

The result – gorgeous multitonal blonde. The price – less than £35.

I too had the same issue. I have honey blonde dye and decided to touch up my roots. well, I left the dye on londer than usual and my hair just looked like brass. So, I went and got a permanent medium brown dye and fixed the problem. The color is great but, now I have like six oxes of the honey blonde hair color and do not know what to do with it. I do not want the same results as before, so...can anynoe asnwer this question for me? If I do Not use the lifting powder, and just use the mix, will I still get that brassy looking blonde? what happens if I use the mix without the powder lift? does the hair still get lighter?
