As a former teacher I need to tell you that children of poverty don't affect classroom management. What affects classroom management is how Childrten are raised in today society. The whole of society is in a crisis when it comes to rasing children. Most families are two income families and have to be. So who is really raising the kids. Daycares and neighbors or family.. The sit down dinners and family time are virtually a thing of the passed and has. no hope of being changed in the future. Until we can figure out a way to make so that people can make it on one income family is second best and children are rasing themselves with out guidence their will be problems in our public school systems. It not the children of poverty causing problems it the fact that they live in poverty and have little or no guidence that is causing problems. I taught in a very small town were half the studnets were fron poverty and many of them behaved better and wokred harder then the well to do kids. They wanted to escape asap and know an education will help. Give them hope not hype. Besides that it really hard to concentrate when you are hungry and are worried about were you are staying the night and where your next meal is coming from. Sometimes school in not a priority in their lives. The good news is that you as aeacher and a school probably provide the only stability they know. Don't look for trouble help them , lead they , and let them know someone really does care who they become.
