How can i meet someone if i'm disabled?

katwoman Asked by katwoman 3 months ago, 3 answers.

Someone said that love sneaks up on you. I wish love could sneak up on me but it never will because I'm a 55 yr old woman who's disabled with COPD. I can't go anywhere because I don't drive anymore and have to use oxygen 24 hrs a day. I have a lot of...

limitations like not being able to stand for long or walk very far.

I'm still the person I've always been before becoming disabled about 10 years. ago. I'm nice looking and have a great personality and sense of humor. I feel hopeless though.

My oldest son and I live together and he's also disabled. I'm sure he feels the same way as I do. We're both in the same boat as far as being disabled and being limited. He gets around better than I do though.

I feel like both of us deserve to meet someone, if it's just to meet and chat with someone on-line. Any suggestions?

I would agree with carlson11b and add to it friendship sites. Spend some time on your
bio / profile.Don't make more of your disability than you have to. Saying ^I'm on oxygen 24/7^
isn't nearly as effective as ^looking for someone to take my breath away^ I'm disabled too, but I find no reason to count my limitations or even address them unless it's unavoidable. Life is too short-too precious. So let me ask you, what do you love about you and your life. Share that ! Love does not sneak up on you. You seize it when the opportunity presents itself. Good news is, there is plenty of opportunity. Get someone
to drive you and your oxygen around town from time to time. Get out of that self imposed prison. Get online and chat away-to men and women alike. Everybody can use a good support system and advice. Be the old self you say you still are. Be approachable, but be VISIBLE. Bring the world to you since you can't go to it. And give yourself a head- to- toe make over. I know when I did, even though I'm in constant pain; my whole outlook was dramatically improved and I look 10 years younger. Take out a small ad in your local penny or nickel saver under personals. Advertise for companionship and friends. Friends and companions visit and take you places too.
Until love comes along spend as much time on loving yourself as you can. Set out on a journey of self enlightenment and self improvement- bound to make you irresistible
and prepared for the relationship you desire so much. Happy trails.

You certainly have me thinking. I agree with you, especially about my profile. I'm going to take your advice and work on it. I do tend to point out the negative and I really do have some things to be thankful for.
Thank you for taking the time to write to me and point that out.

I'm sorry about your husband and I wish I had advice for you. I do agree that it would be good if you guys could manage to get away if only for a few days. My son had a doctors appt in Durham a few months ago for a lump on his back. It's a long story but basically, it is cancer and we have to keep an eye on it , if it gets any larger.

It was going to be difficult for us. He is disabled and also my caregiver. I had nowhere to stay while he was going to be gone so we decided the best thing was for me to go with him and stay in a hotel. We arranged for a relative to take us and to come back and pick us up when he could, which would be 6 days.

So, my son made arrangements to get a room @ a very nice Hotel at a reduced rate. They do that if you're going to be having something done at the hospital, which is across the street. We'd never been on vacation and though I didn't leave the room except for once to go have dinner at the hotel restaurant . We enjoyed just taking a break and staying in a nice place, doing nothing for a change.

Thank you again for the advice. I hope your husband will be alright. It's good that he has you and that you have each other. If you have time, sometime, will you write to me and let me know how things are going?

All the best to you,
Carol
