How can I lose weight?

ME Asked by kayciemarie2010 3 months ago, 11 answers.

Okay I'm 5'2 ish and I weight about 145 and since I'm so short it looks really bad.. How can I lose weight? I've tried running but the only way I can run is if I'm with some of my friends because besides that I'm not motivated enough to keep running once I get tired... I've tried dieting but I can never keep them going... I know that a lot of my weight is in my legs which is almost nothing but muscle but still a good percent is in my stomach and I want that to go away... I've never been happy with the way I looked not even when I hardly weighed anything but I think that maybe if I start to lose weight now that I'm older it might raise my self-esteem which is very low...I'm always told im not fat or ugly but idrc about that I want to be happy with the way I look and right now im not...

So have any of y'all be able to lose weight and is there any way that I can stay motivated enough to keep going even when I get annoyed or tired of it?

Send this to a friend

Um I'm 5'5 1/2 and weigh'd 128 and think I'm over weight too. I bought a treadmill and mine has weight loss programs on it. It's digital and works great I start out at like 3 mph and go up from there all the way up to 6 mph and then go back down to like 2 mph. I drink lots of filtered water, not all at once but over time. Just for doing this for two days I lost 2 lbs. I think it was water weight but I don't know. I don't eat anything dff and when I eat a ding dong or what/ev I eat it while I'm on the treadmill and it works.Other than that I use twister dance it helps and is fun: )

You want to have these things, but you don't want to work for it.
How do you expect to lose weight when you aren't willing to do anything to make it happen?

You say that you aren't motivated. Well, motivation doesn't come easy I feel like if you had a magic wand to make these things happen, you would use it. But do you know what would happen? The weight would come back because you don't have the will that it would take, to keep the weight off.

A lot ot times, people look at thin people and think 'I'd like to look like that' but that's usually not enough to give you the motivation you would need.

You're going to have to pull the strength from somewhere. When I was a few pounds overweight, I didn't look at thin people. I looked at fat people and said 'I don't want to look like that'. That worked for me.

Maybe you aren't so overweight or out of shape, that you can find the will to do something and even if you did find the courage, I have a feeling that you would still be unhappy because you have a self-esteem issue.

You probably look just fine but you see yourself as not perfect.

Either way, if you want this, you have to want it bad enough and I don't think you are at that point and there is no magic wand.

Honestly though, I think you should work on the self-esteem issue though.

Best of luck to you.

okay I never once said that I didnt want to work for it.. I actually enjoy working out I just can't RUN... when I run I cant breath and the only reason I can do it iwth my friends is because I feel like ihave sumthing to prove and because hey if I cant breath they can save me ihave a problem with breathing and a lot of time I have problems breathing so don't bit*h me out... okay I enjoy working out but walking isnt enough and the only other thing I can do besides sit ups and stuff is ride a bike and I don't know if that would help me... and okay how do I work on my self-esteem issues?? because I've tried that before and it didnt work to well becuase I've ALWAYS thought that I was fat and ugly even when I was a little kid and only weighed like 45lbs when everyone else weighed like 60 or so.. so feel free to tell me how to work on that

Wow, Okay, first of all, you didn't say that you had a problem with getting out of breath. You said that you had no motivation w/o your friends. I can certainly sympathize. I have Emphysema and I give out of breath just going to my bathroom. So, you don't have to explain anything to me about not being able to breathe.

As for the self-esteem, maybe you could talk to a counselor or a Psychologist.

I wouldn't go to a Psychiatrist. They don't do anything but ask you questions and then ask you how you feel about that.

I'm sorry if I rubbed you the wrong way. It's just that I have been through the same things when I was younger, even the self-esteem. I would say, especially the self-esteem.

Actually, here's a picture of me, now, Oxygen and all. I am down to 110 lbs and I'm 5'8'. I'm skinny and I'm struggling to stay this size and not lose anymore. I have to make myself eat because I don't have an appetite.
Do you want to be in my shoes? And this is not even the whole story.

My advice is be happy w/ yourself I'm kinda starting to. I was called down to seattle to try out for a petite model last year. Ok I didn't understand but I knew I didn't want to subject myself to even lower self esteem! My dad told them that he wasn't going to subject me to torchure and that he didn't want me on the catalog w/ all these sick people in the world. I sometimes love myself other times not. I think I know how you feel maybe you could try crunches? I don't know b/c I don't know how bad your breathing is?xoxo chayla

Okay, I am in the military so I work out a lot and conduct physical training activities. I have helped a lot of people lose weight.
You first gotta start feeling better about yourself. Everyone has something about them that they don't like . Find what you love and embrace it.
If you REALLY want to do it stick. Sorry its you friends trying to loose weight. You have to find some other motivation. Upbeat music is the best it keeps you moving.
I tell people all the time eating healthy or exercise doesn't work alone. You have to do them together. Atleast 30 minutes of cardio when you work out. You have to burn the fat off before you tone it up.

sorry, katwoman I know that you struggle and that your weight loss is due to your illness but that doesn't mean that kayciemarie2010 isn't struggling also. being overweight is dangerous and kaycie expressed a true need for help. I have a friend that is very skinny (she wears a size 0) and it is very hard for her to gain and keep any weight. but she struggles no more than my friend who is overweight and tries everything to drop some pounds. each person has their own worries.
I think that brisk walking every day (at least a mile) and cutting out the sugar and fat will help a lot. get a ipod and walk, swinging your arms. take it slowly at first, as you get better, walk faster. running isn't good for your joints anyway. speed walking is much better for you.
the more you walk, the easier it will get. and you will begin to feel better and less winded when you exercise.
also, you should see a doctor to make sure the shortness of breath is not a symptom of something else.

Amoeba,
I know that kayciemarie2010 has her problems too and everyones problems are large no matter how miniscule they may seem to others. Problems are problems. I think that, what upset me, was the fact that she said the reason she didn't run was because she needed her friends there for motivation & then she changed it (after my message) to say she was having trouble breathing.

I just don't like it when people use that word so loosely because I really do have major problems with breathing. I have Severe COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease). I have to use Oxygen 24 hrs a day and will for the rest of my life. It's a touchy subject and I shouldn't take it out on people. That's something that I need to work on.

I just want people to realize how lucky they are and to appreciate what they have, especially when it comes to something as precious as health & life. I really do know that you can't make someone do that. Again, it goes back to me and how grateful I would be if I had my health back.

Actually, my weight loss is mainly caused from an under active Thyroid. I failed to mention that to her. When the Thyroid is off, you can gain weight too. I've been on both ends of the scale.

Thank you for your input. I really will find a way to not get so upset and to be more tactful with my advice. If I can't, I'm going to stay away from those questions.
