It really depends on the state you live in and why it was taken away. You really need to contact the child support enforcement and talk to them. If you aren't too far behind and you can make some kind of arrangement to pay your debt, they should reinstate your license.
My son recently had his license suspended here in Florida. He went to the child support office, made arrangements and his license was reinstated on the same day.
But all situations are different. I have read where a special license is issued to people who have had their license suspended for child support arrears. This license would be granted to allow them to drive to and from work.
