there are nailpolishes that yes taste bitter and horrible
the idea is that when you go to bite them youll hate the taste so stay away
as a nail biter myself I can say they didnt work for me
but thats because I actually like having short nails
you can try the nailpolish and you can also teach yourself to do something else as a trigger...instead of biting...suck as fiddling with something else or always keeping your handa busy
if that doesnt work try writing "no!" on the top of your hand so that when you go to bite them youll realise you shouldnt be doing it!

I've had the same habits too! One finger was so bad I called it my E.T. finger lol. Mine are back to normal. What I was told to do by my doc. was to put a rubberband on my wrist and everytime I went to bite Id pull the rubberband and it hurt so eventually I stopped.

Put a rubber band around your wrist. Every time you catch yourself biting your nails give that rubber band a flick. It is called pain aversion. Before you know it you will have stopped that bad habit. I used that method to stop biting mine and to stop smoking.
