History musical?

My baby, Erik Asked by misshistory over 3 years ago, 3 answers.

I'm a 20 yr old highschool world history teacher. I've found that doing bookwork and lectures are a *bit* boring. I'm really big on art and I know some of the kids are too. So, I was wondering if combing history and art and doing a musical would be a...

good idea or a complete disaster? And what are some musicals that would be good?

It hink combining history and art is a great idea. I think you can adapt any musical to inlude both history and art. Choose a musical which is set in a certain period and then get the kids to create the backdrops etc.

Maybe ask your class to suggest some periods they would be interested in and find musical that fit into that era... or ask the class to find some musicals that sound interestint to perform and go from there. I think getting the class involved in chosing the musical would also be a great way to spark more interest in the kids.

Thanks... I'll bring it up tomorrow. And, just to say, I like the idea about the students choosing the musical. Although, the number of possible ones to do would be shortened. We're right now studying WW2.

I applaud your idea misshistory. I know that the best teachers I have had were entertaining as well as informative and that always piqued my interest. Since you are studying WW II, I might suggest South Pacific as one possobility.
