High school

I am about to start high school and I was just wondering... Is high school really as bad as people say it is? like with drugs and alcohal and everything?

I guess that all depends on where you live really. Its not just high school that these things happen. They are all around all the time. If you havent come in contact with them so far in life.. dont change your ways and stay away from people that seem to do things like that. Stay involved with clubs sports whatever interests you! Stay to your studies and remember that your time in high school is setting you up for a great future. To answer your question I would say they arent as bad. I was worried too going into high school but its not that bad. Just surround yourself with good people! Hope that helped a little have a good one kiddo

yeah a lot of highschools are thats what you always hear adults talking about how to infulence their kids Not to drink.. at least that's how it is were I live

it depends on where you live I mean where I live at its not bad people just try to tlk the tlk but they don't walk the walk and yeah I know im not I high school but I have a ton of friends in high school and they've told me the same thing so no its not as bad as everyone says hope I helped =)

Depends on what kind of kids go to your school.
Thank goodness I'm done with it, but the school I went to, there was fights almost everyday, people did do drugs and drink, and about 10 girls were knocked up. High school is best summed up in one or two words...Torture and DRAMA!
Just be around good kids and don't get caught up in all that mess.

Don't be shy! This is easier said than done for many people but it is essential. Even if you are painfully shy by nature you are in a new environment and nobody at your new school know about your shyness. So put on a big smile and start out by being friendly to everybody you see. Just use good judgement in the type of crowd you hang out with !
Introduce yourself to people when you find a seat in class. Sit down in a place where you feel comfortable (yes, the back of the class is OK) and make a point if saying hello to the people sitting near. A good opening line; Hi, my name is Joe and I'm new here. Do you know, is this teacher any good?
Find your niche group. Look for the type of people you were friends with in your old school and approach them. Ask if you can join them for lunch or during class look to pair up with somebody from that group. Believe it or not the majority of teens are more than happy to make a new friend.
Join a club or a team. This is the easiest way to meet people at a new school (or meet new people at your old school) because while being an organized event it is in a much more casual setting than the classroom. You get a chance to spend time with peers who have similar interests to yours and you get to bond with them in a more laid back environment.
Don't be afraid to stand out. If you are good at a certain sport or do well in a certain subject don't be afraid to strut yourself. People are drawn to people with talent and stifling yours to avoid being a show-off will only end up hurting you. So if you have a special talent or skill make it known.
Be mindful of prosocial norms at your school. This simply means try to fit in by observing the positive norms at your school. If your new school is a big football school become a fan. If your school is more academically inclined join a study group. Find out what makes your school tick and join in the fun.

I feel your pain im scared too. im a cheerleader and im afraid that high school will be so hard that I will fail and be forced to quit..my cheer friend that are older said its not so hard but you have too do your homework other wise your screwed...

Yes, there are a lot people who will be going down the wrong path in high school. The best way to avoid all that is to have a group of friends who dont use drugs, are not promiscuous, mean, etc.
Think about the person who you want to be/are. Your friends should reflect that. I have seen a lof of people who were straight A students, on the right path, who had horrible friends and constantly stuck up for these friends despite how bad they were. They would try to change them etc and it never worked and everytime, these good people ended up just like their lame friends. So make sure you stay with a nice group of people. Remember, your education is what is most important.

Just Make the right friends. It's not hard to recognize the wrong crowd.

Your friends can influence you so much which is why most kids get into trouble in the first place.

high school just depends on were you r when I was a frshman I didnt get made fun of for it people mess me with me but they were my upperclassmen friends but high school were a lot changes, you lose some of your best friends and make new ones and etc. dont just make friends with one group of kids I saw a lot of my friends do and I still hanged out with them but it like preps dont want to be seen with goths and jocks dont want to be seen with nerds and so on you cant care what random people you dont know think of you rember that

Not all secondary schools are like this.
Some can have smokers/drinkers
not sure about drugs..

But my schools god the odd few,, but its really okay
