Nail polish should be fine- nail polish is a liquid enamel which, once the alcohol has evaporated, becomes solid. Holding hot liquid may make the enamel flex a bit, but I think it should be fine. If you're unsure, go to a hardware store, and they might be able to help you find something to fix it with.

Help with cracked teapot.
I have a beautiful teapot, but there is a pinhole in the bottom, and it leaks a bit. Is it safe to repair it with nailpolish, or will the hot water make it dangerous?
