What to say to a friend in need?

I texted my friend to see how things were going with him as he is going through seperation with his wife,and she has moved out...he texted me back and said things are very bad, its a mess... I want to text back something, but I don't want to keep repeating myself saying how sorry I am, got any ideas please

'im there for you if you need anything', thats a good one. other than that why don't you see him I person rather than text, its a lot more comforting
