Should I listen to my parents and stop this relationship?

Asked by xmaree6lassx about 1 year ago, 6 answers.

I'm 17, he's 18. I've been dating this guy for like 5 months & my parents don't like him at all. they've forbidden me to see him now, they've taken away my phone and my car. I still find ways to see him when I can because I really want to be with him. but I mean maybe they do have my best interest in mind, should I just leave him alone? they swear he's cheated on me, lied to me, etc. but for some reason I still want to be with him and I can't leave him alone. he says all the right things to me, and tells me he wants to be with me always. but maybe he's just putting things in my head? .. please help me, I dont want to lose my relationship with my parents but I still want to be with him, I don't know what to do

Send this to a friend

I would hope your parents have good reasons behind their accusations about your boyfriend! You need to sit down and ask them where they came to these conclusions about him. Unless they have proof of his infidelity, tell them that you want to be with him, and if they still dont aprove, 18 is just around the corner. Tell them, if you have to move out just to see him, then thats how its going to be. Make double sure your boyfriend is being 100% faithful to you...If you have to go the extra mile , talk to friends or anyone that knows him. I did that with my ex. He would tell me everything I wanted to hear too, come to find out (2 1/2 years later) he cheated on me. Granted it was only making out, but I would have dropped him right there if I had known! Asking him wont do you any good. They will just deny it anyway. Just keep your eyes wide open.

I know that this is cliche, but because parents have had more life experience, they are able to pick up on things that we can't. Whether or not the things that they told you about him are true, it concerns me that you say that he says all the right things and that he wants to be with you always. I was just in a relationship like that and I fell for every single thing he said; 'I'm 101 percent committed to making this work', 'I've never felt this way before', that kind of stuff. I believed it all and one day he called me to tell me that he liked another girl and had made out with her. So I know how easy it is to go for all of the seemingly sweet things that guys say. Its really easy to get sucked into that and believe that they're the only guy for you, but it isn't true. Family is really important, and one day you will find a guy who fits in with your family. I think, as hard as this may be, tthis relationship should be ended. Good luck, I hope you work it out with your parents!!!

OKAY I KNOW THIS SOUNDS STRANGE .. HAVE ONE OF YOUR FRIENDS OR EVEN A RELATIVE HE DOESN'T KNOW OF YOURS , CALL HIM UP AND ASK HIM OUT ON A DATE , IF HE SAYS YEA .. THE GUY IS DEFINETLY A CHEATER.
