Your choice - wait until after Christmas and your choice will be made clearer - that also gives you time to decide what YOU really want to do...Good luck !!

Okay I've gotta tell you somehting.
I've been in Two bands. And neither were sucessful.
ALl children growing up have plans of becoming famous and in a band.
The only real way to do it is to Have mutiple players who have played at a young age.
if your the only one who cna play anything,Then Im sorry to bust your bubble, but it probably would work out.
Instruments and recording studios are rediculously expensive
Not to mention Guitar take s along time to learn, and Drums is even harder if you cant understand Tempos and Beats.

Im sure you could do it,But it would take LOTS AND LOTS of practice, and at least 2 years to get any good.
Not to mention the fact that most parents arnt going to jump right up and get their children thousand dollar instruments,Not even for christmas.
Id forget about it and play on the side

Given that you're 14 years old, I would suggest just noodling around on your guitar by yourself, however, that does not mean that you can't have a practice or a jam with your friends. Learning collectively does help, especially when you're just learning the instruments. You'll learn how to play with other people much better later on if you start now.
Yes, it is going to take quite a while to get used to playing the guitar correctly and well, but that doesn't mean a thing. The White Stripes' guitarist Jack (?) White usually comes up with simple guitar riffs and he plays them well whereas Slash from Guns 'N' Roses comes up with difficult guitar riffs and plays them well. Style is another thing that takes time.
As someone who has also been in bands and jammed with people on the side and by myself, I would suggest going both routes. Practicing with people not only strengthens the other musicians' style and ability, but your own. Utilizing what you have learned from the jam session to practice on your own will help you get it down-pat.

if you want to play play. its not your fault your friends dont have instruments. you can go online to find people around you that want to play and have instruments. you can even put up flyers in record stores to find em. just keep in mind its not easy to get going and you should never just 'give it up'.
