Help!! how to talk to men and comfort them??

This is ONE topic I absolutely CANNOT talk to men about with it seeming awkward, out of hand. . 'Romance'

How could I ever possibly speak to them with comfort when a relationship or friendship of theirs fails?? I've been told even that my words do...

How can I understand and think like a man so I know what to say?

Here is part of the conversation that I failed at:

He says There was this girl that I was beginning to love then she called and turned me down saying she didn't want to speak to me any more.

How would I respond to that!?? or anything Similar would help.

Please! I feel like my words arn't comforting. How do I know what they want to hear?? If only I knew. . .

A lot of times, guys don't want advice. They just want to feel like there is someone there for them, someone on their team so-to-speak. Just say im sorry but not a lot, that gets old.
As for what he said, just say im sorry that happened to you, rejection is hard or something like that. There is no right way to really respond to something like that.
