Molecules in the air scatter blue light from the sun more than they scatter red light.
basically what stella said except
the air molecules actually absorb all the other colors of light and bounce blue back (so you see it) so technically, the sky is every color but blue.
because if it was green we wouldn't be able to tell our lawns from the sky and imagine how confusing that would get.

it was on the birdseye advert...
because of the nitrogen molecules in the sky absorb everyother light colour apart from blue so that gets reflected to earth
