I got my period 2 days ago and it is really heavy. I have to get up in the night and change pads. I have only had a few periods and they are irregular because I am only a teen. My heavy period is really annoying me. is there anyway to make it lighter in the middle of it. and I also want it to be short. is there anysort of food or drink or something other that birth control that can help me???

thank you!!

sometimes the more active you are the lighter your periods. Other than Birth Control I dont think much will help u. But for those heavy flows.. if you are able to wear tampons ... try using a super tampon, and a pad. You should be able to sleep thru the night using both.

I was on Depo-Provera for three years and I did not have a period at all the entire time, I too suffer with heavy, painful periods but I am much older than you so the medications that I take to ease the pain would be too strong for you to take. Try mydol or pamprin and get the extra strength tablets.

Depo really is not a good option, even if she was open to taking birth control. The Depo shot is very dangerous. The FDA does not recommend Depo for teens (which our original poster said she is) or young adults. The FDA also does not recommend anyone stay on Depo for longer than two years as Depo often causes irreversible damage to a woman's body.

Most girls who want a lighter or shorter period go on the birth control pill. Other than that, I am not really aware of any ways to make your period better. You could always talk to an ob-gyn about it though.
