Why don't you try and borrow a refrigerator cart? That way it will take the load off of everyone's aching backs and makes moving a lot easier.
Try to get the biggest strongest friends you know to help you
Getting heavy furniture and appliances up and down stairs can really be a bear. I've gotten hurt doing this and I know a guy who lost control of a washer he was bringing upstairs and fell down the stairs with the washer landing on him. He was pretty banged up but luckily nothing requiring medical attention.
Be careful!
Take the legs off.
Slide it down the stairs.
Put the legs bakc on.
Put it up

There are straps you can buy that you hook around your forearms and then place in the center of the bottom of the piece of furnature. It requires two people, and to be honest I'm not sure where to get them, but it is (supposedly) the safest way to move it, both for the furnature and your back. It reduces the weight so you don't snap your arms off (ouch!) and helps you to keep your back fairly straight, instead of twisting into all manner of unhealthy positions to keep it from falling on your head.
If you don't want to or can't buy them:
First make sure all drawers are removed from them. If the legs are detachable, you'll want to do that. Get a strong person if you are not to help you. Asking a neighbor or friend works. Two is better if you're a weakling like me! Slide the largest towel you can find under one edge of the piece and gently turn it at an angle once you get to the top of the stairs. Slide it down, making sure the towel stays under the corner which is going down first. It prevents the paint from chipping and wood from scratching, and if on carpet stairs also makes it easier to slide. The stronger person should be on the bottom, and the weaker on top, holding the edges so it doesn't tip in any direction. Just watch your toes/legs and you should be good to go.
