Is my sister sick?

Asked by fau 7 months ago, 8 answers.

Hello, okay so my sister im worried about her. We are twins but do not look the same. So there's a problem, she doesn't seem to eat much, hands are cold, hands turn purple, when it's cold outside she is warm, when it's warm outside she is cold. She weights about 90 to 100 pounds. She is 5'4. Her body is always cold, and doesn't eat much, what can this be?

tell her to eat. shes getting anemic. and yeah she should be like at least 120lbs. Anorexia kills. Also maybe she's dead.

Her cold hands turning purple (esp. the nail beds turn purple then white) sounds like Raynaud's Syndrome. My Ex- had that. You will probably have to go to a doctor to have her problem diagnosed.

Good Luck !!

Get her thyroid hormone levels checked she could be suffering from hypothyroid or low levels of thyroid hormone in her body.

Thyroid hormones help regulate body metabolism and the symptoms you described above primarily describe a possible thyroid related disorder.

Just in case you want to sleep on this, it is a SERIOUS disorder and one that is easily treatable provided correct diagnosis is made through a simple blood sample.

btw, it could be any other situation too so if you care about having your sister around for a long time get her checked up immediately.

WRONG! You need to be in your late twenties to be diagnosed with a thyroid problem.

She is anemic or anorexic. Monitor her eating habits, if she eats well then she's anemic and should take iron supplements.

@ attentionham:
Are you pulling your assumptions out of medical books or elsewhere?

I'm a physician myself & I do not recall EVER hearing that dx for thyroid disease is age related, regardless I merely offered a possible scenario based on the symptoms stated.

I did not nullify your dx of anemia, simply offered my own so relax.

I am not diagnosing the disease, merely offering a step to take and you can quote Current Medical Dx & treatment 2006 from this
---'hypothyroidism is a common disorder; therefore, a clinician should request thyroid function tests for *ANY* person with the *nonspecific symptoms & signs of hypothyroidism'

---

Regardless, this is not a competition, both anemia & thyroid levels can be easily checked and the important part of the answer here is to get to a physician in a clinic with reliable lab results and let him/her decide if anything is wrong; if at all.

oh yeah just so you know the symptoms have no mention of the person's age, irrelevant as it were.
