Has anyone figured guys out?

I was going out with this guy for like 2 year I though I knew him, he was the type of guy who is a real gentleman, he had a good job and was really into sport, wee booked a holiday to cosheville in april and then yesterday he textes me and says we need to talk I knew what it was right away.
So he foned me and then he was like I really really like you but I dont think this is working I was like are you kidding me were getting on great, and he said that basically he didnt want to go out or on the holiday because he wanted to see other people and I said to him well is there someone else you like and he was like no I just want to be able to go out clubbing and take different girls home and I was like well f**k you.
Then he text me saying hope we can still be friends... Cliched or what so I text him back sayin I dont want to be friends I cant handle just being friends then he text me about an hour later sayin I hope you know I love you???:s:s

Can someone help me I dont understand this???

He sounds like a total jerk/player

If he wants to bring different girls home he's not ready to commit.

If you were to stay with him you could have the chance to be with anyone you wanted also.

I think he is probably trying to play you. It's like he loves you but he doesn't want to commit. He still wants a noncommital relationship. He still wants to see other girls. Guys are hard to understand.

Hes telling you everything you want to hear, because hes being nice. He doesnt want to look like hes being a jerk. Guys usually say, and behave this way, when they are no longer in love , or arent interested anymore. Its nothing you did, his feelings just faded...it happens.
