I think I remember reading something about using water and lemon juice. But I wouldnt use that, what you should do is go to a salon or your hairstylest and ask about some products that would prevent splitting ends and frying your hair.
Also I know its not natural or homemade, but use Bed Head products they work good.

pure coconut oil. I use it on my hair to make it thicker, stronger, and shiny. you can also use it all over the body. for dry skin, massage oil, cuticles, nails. the stuff is amazing!
