How can I get him back?

I went out with this guy and broke up with him for a very stupid reason. Then it's been a couple of months now and I want to go out with him very bad! I asked him and he said no but I don't know what to do or should I keep trying. Because it is kinda awkward to even talk to him now because of asking him again. I love still love him so much too. Any advice??
