Against.

Here's why.
Killing people is illegal (with a gun or not) right? Well... so these criminals that are killing people... if they are going to break the law to KILL someone... I highly doubt they'd have a problem breaking the law to get a gun to do it with.

So... the only people gun control does anything to is the ALREADY law abiding citizens.
I dunno about you... but if I'm in a public place and someone starts shooting, I'd be pretty happy if joe schmo next to me whipped his gun out and saved us all.

Gun control ...arms the bad guys and disarms the good guys

...and yes I have a carry permit. I do carry on occassion, for my safety.

For

I never understood the need for guns. They're dangerous (I don't want to hear any of that guns don't kill people, people kill people crap - they use the gun to do it, don't they?)

Guns have made it easier to kill - simply put. You don't even have to be near someone to kill them.

I guess it could be my upbringing. Being Canadian, I've never had any need for a gun. I know some countries aren't so fortunate, but I still can't help but feel that if guns were never invented, there wouldn't be any need for something called gun control.

Bible Gun...? Nice combo.

FOR. Don't like guns, too many people die accidentally. We have good gun control laws in Australia, that's what makes me feel safe. If your worried...buy a vest!!!

Ahem...pardon me while climb onto my soapbox...

AGAINST as well. You do have the right to defend yourselves. Have you never heard the old adage Guns don't kill people, People kill people? Yeah, there will be some that say if the person didn't have the gun they wouldn't have killed anyone, but that same person will find a way to do it if they want to bad enough. Plus I was brought up to never be for anything that gives the government the right to tell you what you HAVE to do. Ever heard of a word called FREEDOM? Yeah, thought so...

Sorry...getting off my soapbox now.

If you're for gun control, you'd better buy a vest...it's only the law abiding citizens who will be the ones to give them. Registaring guns...yes...anything more than that...no. The VAST majority of people are perfectly responsible with their guns.

Against, mostly.

There are many people in countries that do not have the right to own a gun. What is one of the first things that Nazi Germany took away from the Jewish people? Their weapons.

One should always be able to protect themselves.

I'm in favor of strict gun control. Gun control does not mean taking guns away from people, it means heavily regulating a product, just as we heavily regulate other products that can kill people. While I agree people have a right to self-defense and that rural hunters should be allowed to maintain their weapons, gun control is essential in a civilized society.

rickd, what makes you think Canada and Australia are gun free countries? It is legal to purchase and maintain firearms in both, as long as you have the proper license.

well than what the hell was legion talking about? LOL

He was probably talking about the very strict regulation of gun ownership in Australia, and the categorization of weapons there. Many Australians hunt.

Opponents of gun control legislation love to paint the picture of Nazi-esque government agents coming from home to home, prying guns from the fingers of patriotic American ranchers and hunters. This is a straw man, and has no place in the gun control debate. I just think it's vital for us to regulate who is allowed to purchase guns, what type of guns they can buy, and what kind of training and safety instruction they should have before making the purchase.

Amen RG. You need a license and registration to drive a car, why can't they be rerquired for guns. How does that affect law abiding citizens who want them? Does it prevent them from getting guns?

As RG said, it is a straw man argument.

You need a license and registration to drive a car,

I know many people who drive without registration, insurance OR a drivers license.
