Google?

There's so many questions in here that could be faster and easier to look up on Google.

I thought this site was more for getting advices and stuff?

Not things like Are there a Bon Jovi Singstar game?

Just go to google and write Bon Jovi...

Singstar and you'll get your answer in 2 sec.

So you do know *how* Google works, right?

They index...wait for it...sites like ours. Or our competitors. OR other sites, like wikipedia, etc.

Think about it for more than the 1 minute you spent *asking* such a question...and, then you realize: without sites, just like ours, Google would be useless. Sure, gmail rocks, so does their maps product...but, the search results would be *empty*. Zip, zero, zilch.

I'm one of the co-founders, the President of FunAdvice, and yes, I think that we're doing Google a favor (Yahoo, too, for that matter)

Not to mention...Google doesn't have the same set of fun social features we do...of course, we need to add a lot more, but, we've been growing fast this year (up from 2.6 million visitors in Jan to 6.9 million in July)...so, well, that's been keeping us busy just making sure the site stays online, and reasonably fast...of course, we're working on making it better and faster.

That way, you know, all those people that use Google will appreciate us that much more

I do agree. a lot of these questions are google worthy but sometimes I've found that there are hard things to find out just by googling them.

I think Funadvice needs a sister site called stupidquestions.com and that way a lot of the questions that end up on here could be moved to that site...

I'm not out to start a stupid discussion here, but you gotta agree that asking certain questions via Google would be more easy than to do it here? If you're not after friends and weird comments along with the answer that is.

You do have a point.

Thing is (which we are trying to come up with now...) the very best solution for our site is a hybrid ask / search feature...eg, if we have had the question n times, and the new question is y similar to previous...show the best answer(s) to past questions, so that we don't get Z duplicates daily...it'd cut down on the repetition and, as you say, give ~20-30% of our members that instant gratification you can only get googling yourself.

I think you missed the point of what Jeremy was saying...

Without sites like this one, Google would have no results to bring up in the first place...it would be useless.

Aside from that...many of our users found FunAdvice BECAUSE of their Google search.

You just have to care enough to actually read a bit, and not just wait for a YES / NO answer.
