I had two Tokay geckos they were both hand tame but recently my female died because she wouldn't eat. Ever since the female died the male has been really stressed and he now snaps at me and he also made his tail fall off. I was just wondering how long it will take for his tail to grow back and if it is normal for him to shed his tail for that reason cause I know its a defence mechinism.

I think it might be normal for a gecko to lose it's tail when under stress because they do lose their tails in the face of danger. From what I understand it takes a few weeks for the tail to grow back and it doesn't grow back the same.

Be patient ... it should grow back. Also depending on the type of gecko, they store their fat in their tail and they need to be kept warm and fed well.

I would suggest calling a vet just to get some advice maybe that way they can tell you exactly how long it will take for the tail to grow?

Get another female Gecko, of the same kind. Put them in seperate GLASS cages next to eachother. This will help them get used to eachother. Make sure they can see eachother. After 2 weeks put them in the same cage. If things aren't going well, seperate them immediately. If you are still worried or the tail hasn't grown back in a series of weeks, months even, contact your local vet.

just through this process make sure to keep the gecko well fed because in the case of tokays they usually store fat in their tails so when he dropped it he lost a lot of extra fat so he needs to be well fed so he can rebuild it ang grow it back faster
