Gay marriage.

There's a debate for my class about that.

How can there be a debate about gay marriage, when there is simply no rational argument for prohibiting it? Debates require that there be some degree of merit to both positions.

love is love let em do what people get married wether it be man and woman, woman and woman, or man and man. ill stick to girls tho

I am not gay, but I strongly believe that a person should be allowed to marry whoever he/she falls in love with. no matter what sexuality, religion, or color. love does not discreminate. love who you love, and be happy.

I belive that being gay (or any other sexuality) doesnt make anyone any less human
and they should be entitled to the same rights as straight people

I think all rights should be extended to all loving couples, including marriage. But no religion should ever be forced to unite a couple if that religion forbids it. But it should recognize it.
Religious ceramony should never grant anyone any special treatment (except within that religion itself).

You are aloud to chose what you wear, your aloud to chose how you act, your aloud to chose your house, your car, what color you want to dye your hair, what tattoos you want, what piercings, what language you want to speak, your even aloud to chose what eyecolor you want (color contacts). I don't see any reason why you wouldnt be aloud to chose who you love, and who you want to be with. Some women can not have sex with a male sex organ for reasons being something wrong inside their va-jayjay (health wise, too big, pushes against the walls causes bleeding, etc) So with that, some women don't like the penis. Some men don't like sticking their face into a hairy cave either, so honestly You should have the right to date, love, or mate with anyone you want. Straight people don't get yelled at for being straight, neither should gay people.

I beleive everyone is equel gay/les/bi/all the same but I think only man and woman should be able to get married.

Gay marriage would same-sex couples to acquire the same rights as hetro. couples. There has been a push for same-sex marriage in Australia for a long time now, but it will not happen any time soon. The previous, very Conservative, government changed the law to make marriage between a man and a woman the only legal form of marriage. And the present government is not going to change them back (I could go into details of why not, but this is not the place for such explanations).

Yes, I think same-sex couples should be allowed to marry if they want.

I agree with everyone above espically what wayke said... I had never thought of it from that perspective, so thanks for that! now whenever it comes up I will have a reasonable debate...

I love many of my friends who are guys to the point where I would give them my life I can tell them I love them and hug them even hold hands and not be freaked out but I know that I was intended to be with a woman... my pieces fit hers like a puzzle or a key fits a key hole.. you cant start a car with out the right key or the key in the right hole. to have two keys or two key holes is point less you can have two but it will give you nothing in exchange for having both one of each.

to wrap it up I think it is as wrong and a sin but is equal to my own so I have no reason to hate them or look down on them. I have a heart filled with lust. I've done things wrong sexually. I spit words like acid at others when I shouldnt. I am just as bad as a killer in my mind so I will not look down on them, I just wont accept their supposed intimacy level with the same sex.

there are already well enough unwanted children in this world

Ok, putting my religious opinion aside and inside a box in the corner of the room ..

This is my OWN personal opinion, I think gay marriage should not be legalised...Marriages should be between a woman and a man, not between George and Steve or Jane and Susan.

Once you legalise gay marriages, then what next???... gay couples being able to have kids..(unfortunately they do)... Imagine being a baby brought up by a gay couple, the baby becomes a kid and go to school, gets teased mercilessly by his or her own classmates as he or she has two sets of same sexed parents... ( lol, quite a tongue twister with all the 's' words in one sentence.)

Kids can be cruel as it is, why make life more miserable for the poor innocence child, by making them stand out from their peers...Also, what happens when his or her classmates celebrate Mother's or Father's Day???..., the poor child will be making cards for two mums or two dads.

I understand there has been reports that kids raised by gay couples turn out to be very strong, independent and thick skinned individuals...BUT... I’m sure they have to go through ‘hell” (teased,bullied etc) in primary and high schools in order to become that strong individuals they are now.

thank you for not leaving me be eaten alive alone. this really needs both sides or its not an issue. im surprised at how many people took to side with gay marriage .. thats new.

I can't believe the level of ignorance being shown by opponents of gay marriage. Reproduction is currently not a requirement for being married, so why should it matter with same sex marriage.

fruitylicious, are you really trying to suggest that gay marriage should be illegal because the kids will be teased? Do you really think that is a good basis for a law. Those opposed to inter-racial marriage used to say the same thing. Should inter-racial marriage have remained illegal too? I meas the kids were teased, weren't they? The teasing won't stop until the bigots are exposed and shamed. Do interacial kids get teased now, like they used too? We should not be creating laws that violate peoples rights just because some bigots won't like it.

This is a civil rights issue. The 14th amendment of constitution provides for equal protection under the law. Heterosexuals can marry whom they choose. Denying a gay person the right to marry whom they chose, violates their constitutional rights.

shimaikun, I understand your point. There's an old fashioned side of me that agrees that marriage is a sacred bond between a woman and a man. When the issue first arouse as a political and religious hotbed, I was oppossed to gay MARRIAGE. I was in support of 'same sex unions'.

That being said, the differences between the two is like splitting hairs. I support gay marriage. The more I thought about it, the more inclined I was to take this view of it:

1. This is not the dark ages. Slavery has been abolished, women have equal rights, why not gays and lesbians? Is anyone less of a human being because of who they love?
2. ''OMG, what about the children that are bound to be adopted by these newlyweds? They're going to be forever warped by having two same sex parents!!'' Not necessarily true. Anyone of ANY sex can be a terrible parent. Children raised by same sex parents will adjust as well as a child raised by a single parent and all children will get teased in school for something.
3. Religion seems to keep this debate in a stranglehold. I'm non-religious, so maybe I have an unbiased opinion, but I don't see what the big deal is. If your religion looks down on gay marriage, don't get married if you're gay. When Adam and Steve or Jane and Susan walk down the aisle to take their vows, don't go. Don't let them get married in your church. Whatever. How is it hurting you or your religion or your salvation? It isn't.
4. Homosexuality is hard for some people to understand and people instantly feel threatened by things they don't understand. Try to imagine the socially accepted norm as being gay/lesbian. You are straight but you are afraid to admit it because you fear the ridicule and possible hatred of the people around you. You just wish you could live a 'normal' life like all the gay/lesbian people and have what they have. Why should you be denied this right? Because you're the minority? Every minority strives for equal rights and all will eventually have them. The time of holding minorities down is over. Now is the time for everyone to have the freedom to express their love to whomever they choose. If they choose to enter into the bonds of marriage, who am I or anyone else to stop them?

jlw82: to answer you question, if its illegal than im not gunna do it probably. ha. but what about the uncivilized societys. I dont see or hear about homosexuality. the only reason that animals only revert to homosexuality only for the pleasure of sex there is no bond. we are animals and have a background of heterosexuality. with out it homosexuality would have existed.

I guess all I can say is that it doesnt make any sense unless something during your childhood or some sort of psychological altering event happens your choosing to be that way... but why.

I understand some circumstances to an extent such as a woman being beaten by a man so she no longer wants love from him in fear of being hurt. or the person who loves and cares for them best is of the same sex.

people who are tortured for a long period of time sometimes start to fall in love wtih the person torturing them out of their insanity.

its not natural if something has to harm you and alter you to become something with out benifit

depression could be an equal example as homosexuality.

It is not a choice. Do you choose be straight?

And it doesn't matter why someone is gay. They just are. Regardless of why, they still deserve the same rights as everyone else.
