First love took me for $40,000 how could a relationship end up like this?

I"m a 25 year old guy - and my first love managed to convince me to spend more than $40,000 while we were dating these last few months.

The relationship had started to go sour a while before, but I kept thinking, it'll somehow be ok - looked for a job, didn't get one. Now my money is gone, I am desperately broke, and I just broke up with her. At least, I think I did - she is on a trip that I paid for right now in Mexico with another guy.

How did this happen?

What was I thinking?

Well, first I'll say, WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?

Why on Earth would you let a woman control your life like that? I can think of little else that is so dumb. Get real.

You need to regain yourself respect - don't deal with this woman again. She's very bad for you, if she made you spend all your money. It's partly your fault too - unless she had access to your bank account?

If not, then you really need to learn to stand up for yourself, have some dignity, and don't let another woman boss you around.

The girl screwed you over - and you let it happen. Pick yourself up off the floor, realize that not every woman out there will screw you like that, and next time, take more care to pay attention when you are 'falling in love'.

Too many friends of mine have confused good sex = good relationship. Good sex can be a foundation, but it's NOT everything.

I bring up the sex bit - though you didn't mention it - because, why else would you have not known what was going on? If you think with your small head, of course you are going to end up confused at the end of the day!

Shake it off. Lot's of people have horrid 1st love stories. And 1st love it the hardest; it feels WONDERFUL and you don't have any life experience to let you know that this isn't the one and only time in your life that this wonderful thing will happen! So many times during 1st loves we end up doing foolish things. So now you've learned...

What exactly? That love cannot be bought, for one thing. That buying more and more (as the relationships starts to go sour) will not resuscitate it.

When she come back from Mexico make sure SHE know that you HAVE INDEED BROKEN UP. Yes, it'll hurt, but believe me you WILL live and get through it.

How'd it happen? You let it. Now take what you've learned and go on. Instead of trusting immediately up front, give everyone you meet equal opportunity to 'EARN' your trust (because as you've learned, not everyone is trustworthy).

Find a job. Get busy, so you don't obsess about her. And find that next love, the one that will count. Oh, that will be sweet revenge when she sees you happy with someone else.
