Can you teach a cat to fetch?

It depends on the cat. I used to have a cat that loved to play with balls of wadded up aluminum foil. He'd bat it around the room and chase after it. After a minute or two, he'd pick it up and carry it over to me to have me throw it so he could chase is again. This would go on for 30-40 minutes until he'd get tired. When ever he wanted to play he'd let me know by bringing me one of his toys and dropping it at my feet.

I didn't train him to do it, it just evolved into something we did.

It started with me tossing the foil at the garbage can and missing.

If your cat has a favorite toy you might see if you can throw it and have him chase it.
Good luck!

The thing with cats is they will not do anything they don't want to.

Remeber you don't own a cat, a cat owns you ... not the easiest creatures to train. Definately got a mind of their own...

'you've never been ignored untill you've been ignored by a cat'

'if you want to find the best seat in the house, just look for the cat'

i'm a cat lover/rescuer... i have managed to get them to understand the word 'NO' and they do know by the tone of my voice when they are being told off and will speak /meeow if required for special food treats... so keep trying and you may get there in the end.

i heard you can teach and train cats anything BUT you have to start when they're kittens, at least 8 weeks.

It depends on the cat, but you should start training it when it is a kittes. My cat is an adult so it doesnt fetch, but when I first got her, I bought a cat encyclopedia. Fetch is a dfficult game to play with cats, but if you want it to stay or come, tempt it with a treat. Repeat that for a few days/weeks until you dont have to tempt it with a treat -- the cat will learn to come based on your hand movement (the 'giving' position).

Hope it helps!
