Hi,
Yeast infections do not usually smell fishy. Contrary to what others may say, yeast usually smells of old potatoes.

If you smell a "fishy" odor around a vagina it is usually related to a trichomonas
infection and is associated with green mucous like drainage.

My understanding is that trichimonas is the only infection that smells of fish and it is generally easily treated.

Nothing to worry about if it is this but you do need to get checked out by the doctor.

PS
A woman (and a guy) can also smell of fish if they dont wash themselves after having intercourse and the sperm goes 'off'.

This site may help you understand more: http://www.wrongdiagnosis.com/t/trichomoniasis/symptoms.htm#symptom_list

Most of all, please dont worry and resist the natural temptation to keep washing yourself, this will just destroy your natural balance and make it worse.

Ok, I will type what I find in my medical book for you about "Yeast Infections" Most to every women will have this in their life time, some more than others. The most common yeast infection symptoms include local irritation, large amount of white, cheesy discharge, and intense itching & burning. The vagina may be sore or appear red. Most commen in pregnancies, oral contraceptives, and (IUD'S) devises. This yeast is also called fungi, it thrives in the presence of sugar, wemon with diabetes are more susceptible to yeast infections. Also, the use of an Antibiotics may kill the "good" bacteria that normally keep the growth of organisms in check. But doesnt mean a good Antibiotics wont cure this yeast infection. Some wemon may exsperience yeast infections after their menstral cycle, due to changes in the vaginal environment from menstrual flow and cyclical homonal changes. You can also get yeast infections from sex, either multipal partners, or just having sex, which creates juices from you both. Other factors that can contribute to yeast infections include allergies, nutritional deficiences, improper hygiene, and the consumption of refined carbohydrates. To replace "Friendly" bacteria and reestablish normal intestinal flora, , launder clothing in unscented detergent, and avoid fabric softners. Wear cotton underwear, also microwave on high for 30 seconds to destroy any yeast. Avoid irritating chemicals. colored toilet paper, dyed underwear, feminine hypeine sprays, and douching. commercial douches have parfumes, which will irritate. Douching is best reserved for therapeutic purposes, an excessive douching my actually help promote infection. If you do douch, try 2 Tbl. spoons of Apple Cider Vinagar in a quart of water. Also, keep clean and dry down there. Even hold a blow dryer down there to make sure it is completely dried. Wear loose fitting clothes, Stay away from sugary snacks, sodas, candy. Try low-fat plain Yogurt. Yogurt contains microorgansms called Lactobacilli,(active live cultures) which actually destroy the fungus.
So, you can either go to the doctors, or go buy the store bought brands, Any one will do, Even ask a pharmacy. Try the 1 day dose, or the 3 day dose, they all work. And we all get them.
Hope I was helpful...Good Luck to you...

I have found nothing under Thrush or yeast infection that states one of the signs of this is a fishy smell.

However, this is a very typical symtom of trichomonas ref my earlier advice on here.

I believe many people confuse the two. Of course, there is always the possibility that if you have one you could also have the other.

IE If you have trichomonas, the instinct is to keep washing your vagina. This is not good for it and destroys the natural ph balance which in turn, can often cause Thrush (otherwise known as a yeast infection.)

All women have the yeast bacteria in their vagina's but it usually stays at a level where is it not a problem. Destroy the natural PH balance by overwashing, then the yeast will multiply and cause the itching/discharge.

However, both are very easy to treat by your friendy doctor.

Please dont worry even if you do have thrush. Most women have yeast infections at some point in their lives, it is not so unusual.

Kiasu is right, yeast never smells fishy, it smells like baking bread. Trich does smell fishy. Time for a visit to the doc.
