I'd apply at your local workforce agency in your town. They are trained to find jobs for just about anyone. I hope someone gives you the second chance you are needing.
try to get into a trade (e.g. plumbing, electrician, ect), or go to college for a master's or Ph.D. because "time is on your side." You need to put as much time as possible between you and your offense. Since it was so recent, you might even try to get work because it is possible it has not been posted on an official database yet; possible! If not, most trade programs pay decently and you can get on the job training. Put at least 5-10 years between you and your offense, and you might be able to get some sort of post-conviction relief.
