I love all of the books by Tamora Pierce and Garth Nix, I like the Obernewtyn Chroniclesby Isobelle Carmody... I have too many favourites to name. I like authors, specifically, more so than books, as I can't remember a lot of the one's I have read.
One brilliant one (in my opinion at least) is 'Monkey Taming', by Judith Fathallah. I cried when I was reading it, and only good, well written books can make me cry.

Eragon and Eldest (Christopher Paolini)
I'm with britz14: Tamora Pierce's Tortall universe books are good, and so is The Old Kingdom Trilogy (Garth Nix)
Evil Genius and Genius Squad by Catherine Jinks
Cynthia Voight's 'Bad Girls' series
Cliff McNish- The doomspell trilogy
Marianne Curley's Guardians of Time trilogy is EXCELLENT
Eoin Colfer- need I say more?
An Agatha Christie is always good. try 'One, Two, Buckle my shoe' that is the most complicated and bestest one I know.
Patricia McKillip's 'Alphabet of Thorn'

and that's pretty much it.

oh wait- 'the starthorn tree' by Kate Forsyth.

The Lovely Bones by Alice SeBold

The Story of a girl who gets raped then killed. And then she watches in heaven as her family tears apart and her muderer hides his tracks. It's filled with joy, romance, and sadness. Great story.
