Ex boyfriend won't give any answers!

Okay, so usually I'm pretty good with dealing with boyfriend/girlfriend situations, but my cousin recently came to me for advice and I don't know WHAT to tell her. It's a toughie, please anyone help out! So, my cousin and her boyfriend of 7 months broke...

up, he dumped her saying he didn't feel the same way anymore, he just didn't like her in that way. She understood, but couldn't figure one thing out- (and neither can I) two days before dumping her, they went to the school dance and had an amazing time, being sweet and acting very couple-ish. The day after they got into a little tiff because he seemed to be ignoring her and she needed to be comforted due to some issues she was going through, and then the next day he broke up with her. She asked him the day after how he could have stopped liking her in two days, or whether he had been lying to her whenever they were together recently. He gave no answers at all. He didn't say anything, not a word to indicate why he did what he did or how he felt. HELP I have no idea, in my opinion they were together long enough that she deserves answers and he should know them.

I know the answer to this one.

Her boyfriend was testing the waters. He was being as sappy and romantic as he could to try to see how it felt for him. Your cousin obviously enjoyed it immensely, but for him it seems it probably felt a little hollow and contrived.

Women do the same things. Sometimes the breakup happens right after the best part of the relationship when it seems anti-climactic to one of the people.

For example, I've known girls who just couldn't wait to get married, they thought everything would be perfect once they were. But, after the wedding, it just seemed like another day to them. Their husbands were totally excited to have won a bride, but the bride just isn't into it. So, the marriage ends up getting annulled a few weeks later, or it becomes an ugly divorce a few years later.

Don't be too hard on her boyfriend. He's probably doing the right thing, even if it feels wrong to your poor cousin. He's saving her (and himself) a lot of tragedy and chaos down the road.

It would be better for your cousin to have some kind of closure by knowing exactly what's going on in her boyfriend's head. It may bother her for many years too, if she doesn't get some answers. The boyfriend is probably protecting your cousin's self esteem, or her pride. He doesn't want to tell her that he'd prefer a girl with another hair color, or something silly like that.

Maybe he doesn't really know for sure. You can give your cousin some closure by reassuring her that her boyfriend is probably thinking of her best interests in many ways, and that he's not giving out his reasons because the reasons are probably shallow (but still important, at least to him, and in the long run, to her also).

Make sense? It's a bit confusing, but both men and women do this, with men doing it more often. It's not as bad as it seems, it's actually compassionate in a way. I'm sure her boyfriend wanted more with her, since he likes her, and he's disappointed also. But, he knows it's not her fault, and that the problem is only with him.
