What does emo mean to you?

Emo is literally the shortened title of the word 'emotional' and it is the recent generation's trend that is dominantly influenced by the 'socially unacceptable', the frowned-upon lifestyles that we have seen throughout history (such as the punk movement- sex pistols, buzzcocks, new yorks dolls having their titles based off of mixing up the gender expectancies, such as by males looking more like females and females being more boyish in demeanor) and I believe Emo is typically just another one of those 'names of shame' that our generation is going to be looking back on and regretting much like the 80's generation of 'metal/glam hairdos' gags with revulsion each time they remember the fact they had hair that could have rivaled diana ross'.

And that is what Emo is.
Just without the perms.

To me 'emo' is a state of mind - over the years its become a style inspired by the Gothlic style. Some people think wrist cutting and such... but I don't. I still see emo as a state of mind and not some stupid stereotype.

I think it's yet another stupid teenage fashion/image.

Like any style, fashion or culture. The term emo is loosely associated with emotionally charged punk rock, however it originally meant emotionally hardcore - modern 'emo' music is more of a branch off from what it started out as. Most emos like underground or indie music. Emo has branched out from punk/indie.
Support the music. Emo is a rock music genre, usually consisting of emotional lyrics and (optional) screamo.
